How to outsmart burglars
From January to May 2009 there were about 9500 burglaries in flats and single family homes according to the current crime rate statistics of the Austrian Federal Ministry of the Interior.
That´s 38.3 percent more than the year before, during the same period of time, only for single family homes. That has of course consequences in the sense of security the Austrians have. Not more than a third of the Austrians feel „very safe“, and in Vienna the sense of security is clearly lower. Half of the inhabitants of the federal capital worry quite a lot about burglaries. They do not only fear the material damages. Almost three fourths of the Austrians fear that they would have lost their sense of security or feel uneasy in the privacy of their home after having been victims of a burglary.

Opportunity makes the thief
Unlocked entrance doors, tilted windows, or terraces hidden to view. Most of the criminals are spontaneous, which means that such carelessness favors burglaries. „Locking and unlocking constantly is not convenient and quite annoying, especially when you have children. At some point of time, one prefers to leave the door unlocked. It is the same with the alarm system, which mostly needs to be operated separately via a code. If one forgets to arm it, than this wise investment is worthless. Security measures are mostly inconvenient and not easy to operate. One needs to keep an eye on all the keys and learn several codes by heart. Thanks to ekey´s fingerprint solutions, security becomes simple and convenient. You feel safe afain at home“, explains Mr. Leopold Gallner, Managing Director at ekey.
