Uznach-Schmerikon fire department

Back to overview

Finger scanners instead of codes and key systems to save time in an emergency

Over 4,000 deployments a year mean that the fire department in the Swiss canton of St. Gallen have to respond every two hours. To save time in an emergency, the code and key systems were switched to Feller overto finger scanners with ekey technology. Adding RFID to the system means that it is also open to third parties. The cantonal police department and the neighboring fire department also have access in an emergency using RFID cards. Heinz Hickert, chief of the cantonal fire department, confirms: "In the event of an alarm, the Feller overto and the ekey finger scanner technology enables doors to be opened quickly and reliably. It really takes no time at all. The fire fighters think it's great that they no longer need codes or keys."
