In conjunction with Home Assistant, the leading open source platform for home automation, every access becomes an intelligent trigger for lighting, climate, music or security systems. Whether you are coming home, leaving the house or receiving visitors – everything reacts automatically to your needs.

Communication between ekey and Home Assistant takes place via a secure, encrypted HTTP(S) connection in order to transmit events reliably. Home Assistant does not receive any biometric data, only information about triggered actions. This is processed locally in your Home Assistant – for full control and data protection in your own home.

Integration of ekey with Home Assistant

With the ekey-bionyx integration, your fingerprint scanner is seamlessly integrated into Home Assistant. Each finger can send events to Home Assistant, which serve as triggers for automations – such as lighting, heating, music or alarm systems. Communication is encrypted via HTTP(S) and is then processed locally in Home Assistant. This means that all data remains in your home.

1. preparation in the ekey bionyx app

  • Activate the Third Party API in the app.
  • Connect your ekey system to your network (LAN/WLAN) in Plus mode.
  • Assign individual functions to fingers or users in the app – such as “Open door” or “Start welcome scene”.

(Note: The desired scenes must first be created in Home Assistant).

2. integration in Home Assistant

  • Open Home Assistant and select the “ekey bionyx” integration under Settings → Devices & services → Add integration.
  • Follow the wizard and authenticate your ekey system.
  • After successful setup, ekey events (e.g. “Access detected”) appear in Home Assistant as triggers for your automations.

3. create automations and scenes

  • First create your scenes and routines in Home Assistant – such as a welcome scene with light, music or heating.
  • Then use the automation editor or YAML to define which ekey events start these scenes.
  • Example: “When Anna’s finger is recognized → Activate ‘Welcome home’ scene”
  • This turns every access into a personal experience – convenient, secure and individual.

4. visualization & control

  • Events and scenes are visible directly in the Home Assistant interface.
  • Create individual dashboards, e.g. with status displays, switches or logs.
  • Access possible at any time via app, browser or wall display.

⚠️ Technical information

  • The integration uses Local Push (local real-time transmission) – events are sent directly to Home Assistant, not cached.
  • A maximum of 5 functions (webhook destinations) are currently possible per ekey system.
