Your finger scanner is in lock-out mode You have five minutes after connecting the power supply to start the system and store fingers. Disconnect the system from the mains voltage and reconnect it to the mains. You can now save fingers.

You must change the operating concept: Switch from administration of the finger scanner using the admin finger to administration using a mobile device. If your finger scanner is not a Bluetooth finger scanner, reset your system to the factory settings and then put it back into operation.

For this dark moment we offer a UPS – an uninterruptible power supply – for our access solutions. This keeps the finger scanner, control unit and motor lock in operation for several hours. Alternatively, a key can of course be used.

1. Install your license number on the new server. You can find this in the program License Manager or use the KFU file obtained when upgrading from 3 to 4.

If you do not have both, please contact our support with a copy of your invoice (all finger scanners mounted on the wall must be there).

2. From the old server, back up the file ekey net.netdata which can be found in one of the following directories

c:TOCA net DB

or

d:ekey net DB
d:TOCA net DB

3. Stop the following Windows services

  • ekey service guard
  • ekey master server
  • ekey terminal server

4. Replace the new ekey net.netdata with your backup.

5. Start the above services.

It is now possible to register with your old data. Under Terminals assign the new PC NAME to the terminal server if necessary.

6. Activate the license with the same e-mail address as on the old server.

ekey home can store up to 99 fingers. We recommend to store 2 fingers per user.

In which temperature range can ekey finger scanners be used?2020-12-01T07:54:15+01:00

The system works reliably and has been tried and tested in a temperature window of -25 °C to +70 °C. ekey retrofit solutions, which are operated by means of rechargeable batteries, in a temperature range from -20 °C to +60 °C.

ekey net converter LAN is not found?2020-12-01T07:54:17+01:00

Please note that each ekey net CV LAN delivered from the factory has the IP address 192.168.1.250. To find it on your network, you should also be in the 192.168.1.x range. You can manage the converter with the program ekey net converter LAN config installed.

In order for it to be found, you must observe the following points:

  • MAC address broadcast must be active in the network (various routers or layer 3 switches can block this),
  • Ports 58000-58018 must be available, deactivate firewall if necessary.

If your network uses other IP addresses (different subnet), you can search for the ekey net CV LAN by clicking on the button Manual Selection or try to assign an IP using the MAC address.

If the configuration state of the ekey net CV LAN is unknown, reset it by pressing the reset button (press for 5 seconds).

You can also connect directly to the ekey net CV LAN with a notebook that has a fixed IP address (e.g.: 192.168.1.10) and give the device a suitable IP address for your network.

Which maintenance do ekey finger scanners require?2020-12-01T07:54:19+01:00

The system is basically maintenance-free. The sensor surface of the finger scanner is practically self-cleaning due to its repeated use (pulling fingers). If the finger scanner still gets dirty, clean it with a damp (not wet), non-scratching cloth. Suitable are cotton swabs, microfibre and spectacle cloths. Not suitable are all cotton-containing fabrics, paper towels and paper handkerchiefs, kitchen sponges, moistened dishtowels and kitchen rolls. Use pure water without detergent additives. Proceed carefully in the sensor area.

If disinfection of the entire finger scanner including the sensor is necessary, you can use aqueous and alcohol-based agents. However, these should be able to dry quickly in the sensor area. The lacquer of the finger scanner is very resistant to all common cleaning and disinfecting agents with an exposure time of less than 10 minutes.

If you add a new user, their fingerprint must be scanned and enrolled.

Clean the ekey keypad from time to time to remove dirt with a damp (not wet), non-scratching cloth. Microfibre and spectacle cloths, also cotton swabs, are best suited. Cotton-containing fabrics, paper towels and tissues, kitchen sponges, moistened tea towels and kitchen rolls are not suitable. Use only pure water without detergent additives.

Depending on the performance of the computer, ekey net can manage several thousand users. Depending on which ekey-net terminal is used, between 40 and 2,000 fingers can be stored. Attention: The number of users is not equal to the number of fingers!

A warranty claim always exists only if a (always voluntary) warranty declaration has been made; the warranty is a legal obligation towards the consumer.

Since we are convinced that our products are made for the future, we generally grant a 36-month guarantee on all ekey products. Exception: Batteries and LCD displays purchased after October 1, 2014

Windows DNS server update blocks ekey-net ports2020-12-01T07:54:20+01:00

The Microsoft DNS Security Service Update 953230 (MS08-037) may block our UDP ports because the DNS service starts before the MS Message Queuing service and blocks it.

Try stopping the DNS service and then restart the MS Message Queuing service. If it is running again, you can reserve the port in the registry.

You can find this under:

  • Regedit
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetServicesTcpipParameters
  • RESERVED PORTS 58000-58019

If the field does not yet exist, create it again.

If you want to update from a very old version e.g. 3.1 or 3.2 to ekey-net-Generation-4.x, it is necessary to update to version 3.4.3 first, so that the database can be transferred correctly.

If you cannot establish a connection to the master server on the client PC, this may have the following reason:

The server’s HOSTNAME cannot be resolved.
The network cannot find the server name on the network or gives up searching too quickly.
Try pinging the server (DOS prompt “ping servername”).
Try to ping the server (DOS prompt “ping IP address”).

On both the server and the client, enter the respective address of the other in the Hosts file.

To do this, edit the file c:windowssystem32driversetchosts on the client.

ekey FSX is a complete finger scanner with an open data interface for connection to non-ekey systems. ekey module is an electronic module which can be integrated into other devices and systems and which provides ekey biometric functions.

Can I still update an ekey-net version 2 or 3?2020-12-01T07:54:24+01:00

Here the procedure is relatively complicated, because you have to perform several intermediate updates (e.g.: to ekey-net version 3.4.3). This can only be done by an ekey PARTNER / Premium PARTNER! The updates are subject to a charge.

LAN converters from the manufacturer “MOXA” are no longer supported. Here ekey net CV LAN must be used. Finger scanners, control units, LAN converters, may have to be removed and sent to us.

The ekey-net-4 licenses can be generated with the software checkupdate.exe on the old system or can be requested from ekey with your invoice copy (number of mounted finger scanners).

Do ekey finger scanners work even if I injure my finger?2020-12-01T07:54:29+01:00

Basically, yes. Only in the case of serious injuries (deep cuts, severe burns, …) do problems with detection occur.
Our recommendation: Save (at least) a second finger, preferably from the other hand, for safety reasons.

Are my fingerprints stored in the ekey finger scanner?2020-12-01T07:54:26+01:00

No. ekey does not store fingerprints. A pattern (template) is created from the biometric features of the original fingerprint, such as unique points, line endings, forks, etc. This pattern is converted into a unique binary numerical code by the specially developed algorithm, stored and used for comparison each time.

Can a door open automatically in case of a power failure?2020-12-01T07:54:26+01:00

No. With an ekey fingerprint access solution, power failures cannot trigger an impulse that opens the door. Only an authorised finger can trigger this opening impulse.

Can the ekey fingerprint access solution be manipulated from the outside to open the door?2020-12-01T07:54:30+01:00

No. The system cannot be manipulated from outside. Also not by force, because finger scanner and control unit are spatially separated. The opening impulse comes from the control unit in the protected indoor area. Moreover, the system cannot be manipulated via the Internet, as it is not connected to it.

It is not relevant for the insurance cover whether the locking is triggered mechanically by key or electronically by fingerprint. In principle, insurance cover only exists if access is properly locked. If a door only “falls into the latch”, it is not considered to be locked.

No. ekey has no possibility (factory code, etc.) for opening by a technician stored in the system. The owner (also the administrator) is the only person who can reset the system to factory default settings using a self-defined 6-digit administrator code.

You can change all security codes at any time:

  • the app security code
  • the admin link code
  • the user coupling code

The selected security code has been changed.

What’s a “live one”?2020-12-01T07:54:38+01:00

ekey finger scanners use RF sensor technology (radio waves) to check the condition of the skin and can thus distinguish between living and dead tissue. Thus, the ekey finger scanner must first recognise the tissue as “alive” before a data comparison can take place. Therefore, it is not possible to outsmart the finger scanner with a print or photo left behind.

ekey home App: Is a connection with several finger scanners possible?2020-12-01T07:54:38+01:00

The ekey home app enables the administration of several Bluetooth finger scanners. To switch between two Bluetooth finger scanners, you must reset the pairing between the Bluetooth finger scanner and the mobile device.

When the coupling is reset, the stored relay names and user pictures are deleted. The user names and authorisations remain stored on the Bluetooth finger scanner.

  1. Start the ekey home app.
  2. Select ADMINISTRATION.
  3. Select RESET COPY.
  4. Confirm the reset with continue.

The pairing between Bluetooth finger scanner and mobile device has been reset.

You can now pair up another Bluetooth finger scanner.

ekey home App: How can I pair my mobile device with a new finger scanner?2020-12-01T07:54:35+01:00

For the initial pairing you need the device pairing code and the app security code. Both codes are factory set to 9999.

  1. Start the ekey home app.
  2. Touch the input area (Android) or press Search (iOS). The app searches for available Bluetooth devices.
  3. Select your ekey Bluetooth finger scanner.
  4. Android only: Press Logon.
  5. Enter the factory device coupling code 9999. (The status LED lights up blue, the function LED on the left lights up orange)
  6. Press Next. The mobile device is coupled with the Bluetooth finger scanner.
  7. Enter a new 6-digit device pairing code. For security reasons, you must change the factory device pairing code the first time you pair the system. Remember this, as it is required for coupling additional mobile devices.
  8. Press Change (Android) or Next (iOS).
  9. Enter the factory App security code 9999.
  10. Press Next.

The coupling between the Bluetooth finger scanner and the mobile device was carried out. The system is in normal operation.
You can now program and manage the fingerprint access system with the ekey home app.

ekey home App: Is it possible to deactivate the app security code?2020-12-01T07:54:39+01:00

The 4 to 6-digit app security code is required for the security query for the app. You can deactivate the request for the app security code under ADMINISTRATION if your mobile device has secure locking mechanisms (fingerprint, code, etc.).

You can save a user linkage code.

  1. Start the ekey home app.
  2. Select ADMINISTRATION.
  3. Select CHANGE SECURITY CODES.
  4. Enter the desired user linkage code in the appropriate field.

You can pass on this User Coupling Code to a person of your choice.
This selected person can use this user pairing code to perform the following actions with their mobile device:

  • Open a door;
  • Enable or disable the app security code;
  • Change the app security code;
  • Reset the pairing between the finger scanner and your mobile device.

The wireless free-field range of the Bluetooth connection is 10 m. However, this can vary depending on the installation situation and the building structure.

You can reset the pairing between Bluetooth finger scanner and mobile device via the app if you forget the app security code. The app security code is also reset to the factory value 9999 when the app is reset.

  1. Start the ekey home app.
  2. Type in an incorrect app security code.
  3. Confirm the entry with Next.
  4. Select RESET COPY.
  5. Confirm the reset with continue.

You can activate Bluetooth again: Enter the admin menu and drag any admin finger across the sensor. The Bluetooth functionality is active in the factory setting. A power reset will therefore also reactivate the Bluetooth functionality.

The Bluetooth functionality is active in the factory setting. You can disable the Bluetooth functionality:

  1. Start the >g id=”gid_0″> ekey home app.
  2. Select ADMINISTRATION.
  3. Select SYSTEM STATUS.
  4. Under BLUETOOTH SETTINGS, activate “Deactivate Bluetooth after 15 minutes“.

This setting disables Bluetooth on the finger scanner after 15 minutes in one of the following cases:

  • No mobile device was connected;
  • At least one finger has been saved.

You can activate Bluetooth again: Enter the admin menu and drag any admin finger across the sensor.
